After a weekend off, due to FIFA World Cup qualifiying action, the domestic leagues in Europe return this weekend. On Friday, during the afternoon for stateside viewers, the Bundesliga will be back on our screens with a game at BayArena, where Leverkusen and Frankfurt will clash. These teams have made contrasting starts to the new campaign, with the hosts really feeling the pinch in the absence of Xabi Alonso, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. After losing first time out, they did improve offensively to tie with Bremen last time out, scoring three goals in the process. Can they now tighten up at the back?
While the hosts have struggled a little to get going, the visitors have flown out the gates this term, winning each of their first two games, scoring an impressive seven goals in the process. Dino Toppmöller's men will thus fancy themselves to do some serious damage at BayArena on Friday, and I really would bet against them doing that.

The start of what is a new era, an era without Xabi Alonos at the helm and without several of the key players that made that 2024 title win possible, the Leverkusen boys are struggling a little, especially defensively, so it's not hard to envisage a confident-looking Frankfurt team will thriving offensively in this game. After all, we've seen the visitors score seven goals in their opening two games, while they were deadly on the break in their last away game. I'm not sure that their threat is being accurately priced here, particularly given that the hosts have found it tough to defend so far this term.
