It was a wild ending to the 1st half of the season for the Baltimore Orioles (58-38). After having a decent lead in the AL East over the Yankees with a week left before the break, they were swept by the Cubs and found themselves down 2 games to 0 in their final series against the Yankees. With the division lead on the line in the final game of the series, the Yankees took a 5-3 lead off a Ben Rice homer in the top of the 9th. Then with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, the Orioles scored on a botched play by the Yankees and walked it off with a Cedric Mullins double. Now, they head Texas, to take on the defending World Series champion Rangers (46-50). The Rangers won 7 of their last 9 before the break. They will likely have Jon Gray (4-4, 4.01) on the mound for this one and will face the Orioles’ Corbin Burnes (9-4, 2.43). Burnes saw some work as he started the all-star game for the American League while Gray’s last work came against the Angels earlier this month where he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits.

Corbin Burnes should be hyped to pitch this game against a lineup that is much less intimidating compared to the one he saw in the all-star game. The Orioles have a top 10 batting average at .253 and are loaded with some of the best young power hitters in baseball. Gray is carrying an ERA over 4.00 which is likely to go up even more after this matchup. The rocky end of the 1st half of the season should serve as a wake up call to this Orioles and they will want to get off on the right foot here.
