The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays return to the diamond today for game two of their three-game weekend series at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay dominated the opener with an emphatic 11-1 win on Friday night, snapping a six-game skid and regaining some much-needed momentum in their push to climb the American League East standings. The Rays now sit at 51-47, holding fourth place in a tough division, while the Orioles have dropped to 43-53, remaining at the bottom of the AL East.

Tampa Bay’s big win in the series opener was a welcome sight after back-to-back series losses to the Red Sox and Tigers, during which the team dropped six of eight games. The offense came alive on Friday, providing a rare outburst during what’s been a frustrating stretch. The Rays are 29-25 at home this season and will look to keep that advantage going today as they aim to build some consistency in the second half.

Baltimore, on the other hand, has hit a rough patch. The Orioles have now lost three straight games and were outscored 28-2 during that stretch. Despite showing signs of life earlier in the month (taking two of three from the Mets) they’ve since stumbled, including losing a series to the Marlins.
