Two teams struggling lately will meet for a 3-game series beginning tonight. The Kansas City Royals (7-15) will host the Baltimore Orioles (10-12) in a game that features two teams that have lost 12 of their last 14 games combined. One will have to win this one, and there seems to be a clear edge on the mound.
Baltimore is going to throw Kyle Bradish, who has struggled in the majority of his starts this season. His only good start and win came against the White Sox, who are near the bottom in all offensive categories. He is coming off 6 innings of work against the Diamondbacks, where he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, but luckily did not factor into the decision.
He will be opposed by the Royals’ Seth Lugo. Unlike Bradish, Lugo has been pitching wonderfully. However, he has just simply not gotten the run support needed to pick up multiple wins. He has only allowed 4 runs in 24.1 innings of work to carry an impressive 1.48 ERA.
Kansas City is going to need to tag Bradish for just a couple of runs to get Lugo in line for the win here. Even if they are unable to get to Bradish, the Orioles bullpen has not been strong and could give the Royals ample opportunity to score late.
