Baltimore won the series opener on Monday in an exciting 8-5 contest. But the Tigers came out on top in dominant fashion Tuesday, outscoring the Orioles 14-0. Todd Melton threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits.
Trevor Rogers is scheduled to start for the Orioles. He is 6-7 this season in 19 starts with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. On the road, he has posted a 3-2 record in seven starts with a 3.72 ERA and a .233 OBA. Rogers is not a bad pitcher, but I don’t think he is equipped to slow down a Tigers lineup hitting .298 over the last week. Skubal, on the other hand,. Is entirely capable and will likely severely limit what the Orioles offense can do. He is just too dominant a pitcher and has been throwing really well of late. In his last three starts, he allowed a total of three earned runs. Detroit should absolutely cover the run line today.
