Baltimore took Game One yesterday, beating the Braves 3-2. Charlie Morton went 5 1/3 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out seven. Every run in the game came via a home run. Jordan Westburg got the scoring started with a solo shot in the third before Cedric Mullins added a two-run shot in the fifth. Drake Baldwin got Atlanta on the board with a two-run shot in the sixth.
Dean Kremer is scheduled to start for the Orioles. After a rough start to the season, Kremer has begun to settle down and throw well. With a shutout in his last outing (vs. Tampa Bay), he dropped his ERA down to a season-low 4.27; he’s got a 3.30 ERA in five starts in June. Kremer has gone from being a weak point in the rotation to a solid piece of the rotation. After a terrible March/April, he had a 2.72 ERA in May. After two lackluster starts in June, he pitched a shutout in his last and gave up one run in each of the previous two games. He should do just fine against an Atlanta lineup struggling to generate offense. Bummer will keep the Orioles from getting off to a hot start, and the bullpen will make Baltimore work for it. But the Orioles will get the win.
