Following the Basque derby between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, it is now the turn of Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona to compete in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The first leg of this clash will take place on Thursday at the Metropolitano Stadium. Already out of the running for the La Liga title, the Colchoneros are hoping to shine in the Spanish national cup. However, they will have to be at their best this week. To stay alive before traveling to Catalonia, Diego Simeone's team cannot afford to lose in front of their fans.
FC Barcelona has been virtually unbeatable on the national stage. In addition to winning the Spanish Super Cup, Barça sits at the top of La Liga. As the defending Copa del Rey champion, the Catalan club wants to secure a spot in the final on Thursday night. Hansi Flick's men have reason to believe in victory, as they have won their previous three matches against Atlético Madrid...

Atletico Madrid - Barcelona: Form Analysis
The last few weeks have not been easy for Atlético Madrid. They are struggling a bit in La Liga, having failed to win in their last two games. After a draw against Levante (0-0), they lost to Betis Sevilla (0-1). Still in third place in the Spanish league, the Colchoneros are a long way from the top of the table.
In the Champions League, they failed to finish in the top eight and qualify directly for the round of 16. They will have to play a play-off against Club Brugge. Diego Simeone's team has been much more convincing in the Copa del Rey. In the previous round, they crushed Betis Sevilla (0-5). The task now looks more complicated!
FC Barcelona already won the Spanish Super Cup earlier in the season.
FC Barcelona has been shining in every aspect since the start of the season. It already won the Spanish Super Cup in early January, beating Real Madrid in the final (3-2). The Blaugrana are also at the top of La Liga, having won three games in a row. They cannot afford to take their foot off the gas as they are only one point ahead of Los Merengues.
To top it all off, Hansi Flick's men have qualified directly for the Champions League round of 16 and are still in contention to retain their Copa del Rey trophy. Barça will be looking to take a step towards the final with a win on Thursday.

Atletico Madrid & Barcelona Squad Analysis
Atlético Madrid will not have a full squad for this Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. Pablo Barrios, Johnny Cardoso, and Nicolás González are injured. Otherwise, Diego Simeone will be able to rely on his key players. It's hard not to pay special attention to the Colchoneros' defence. Marcos Llorente and David Hancko will have to be at their best against Barça's attacking armada.
Atlético Madrid also has a few assets to bring to bear. In addition to Julian Alvarez, Ademola Lookman arrived during the last winter transfer window. The former Atalanta Bergamo player has already made his mark in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, with one goal and one assist against Betis Sevilla.
Lamine Yamal is back in top form with FC Barcelona.
As for FC Barcelona, Andreas Christensen, Pedri, and Gavi are already ruled out. Absent from Barça's last two games, Raphinha remains uncertain, as does Frenkie de Jong. That doesn't mean Hansi Flick can't aim for victory in the Spanish capital. He has plenty of other reasons to win, starting with his goalkeeper: Joan Garcia. It didn't take him long to win over the Blaugrana fans.
Far from shining this season, Jules Koundé could make way for Joao Cancelo at right-back. In attack, the Catalan club has plenty to work with. Lamine Yamal is back at the top of his game. He has been decisive in his last seven games for FC Barcelona. He will be looking to continue that run on Thursday.
