In Matchday 2 of the Liga MX Apertura tournament, two Mexico City clubs will face off: Atlante, recently promoted to the first division following an administrative change, and América, the most successful club in Mexican football history.
Interestingly, Miguel Herrera, the experienced coach who led América to the championship in 2018, now manages Atlante. Herrera spoke of returning Atlante, the traditional club from the Mexican capital, to prominence once again; he dreams of taking them to the playoffs. However, despite leading 1-0 against Necaxa in Matchday 1 with a goal by Pizzuto, they conceded a penalty in the 81st minute, and Pedroza scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute to give Necaxa the victory.
Meanwhile, América, now managed by Guillermo Almada, started well at the demanding club. They secured a narrow victory against Querétaro at La Corregidora stadium. Violante was the hero with his goal, making everyone forget the penalty Martín had missed ten minutes earlier. Cervantes will not play against Atlante, as he was sent off for two yellow cards against Querétaro.
