Atlanta (35-27) will try to avoid a 3-game losing streak and split this 4-game series with the Washington Nationals (29-35) on Sunday afternoon. They were handed a 7-3 loss yesterday and could not really get to Mackenzie Gore who went 5 innings and stuck out 7 batters. 3rd baseman, Nick Senzel, went 3-3 with 2 doubles and a homerun while knocking in 3 runs. Both Dylan Florio and Robert Garcia pitched great in the 8th and 9th to close things out for the Nats. Today, DJ Herz (0-1, 9.00) will get his 2nd career big leagues start. He hopes to fair better than the 4 earned he allowed to the Mets in his debut 4 innings of work last outing. The Braves are countering with Hurston Waldrep (0-0, 0.00) who will be making his MLB debut. In his minor league work this season between AA and AAA, Waldrep combined for a 3-5 record with a 3.09 ERA. He has a solid 9.6 K/9 ratio and carries a 1.35 WHIP. With both youngsters being on the mound, it will be interesting to see how these batters approach their at-bats. Marcel Ozuna of the Braves has picked up 2 hits in each of the 3 games against the Nationals, but he will need some more help today to avoid the losing streak.
