Game two of the 3-game series between the St. Louis Cardinals (40-37) and the Atlanta Braves (43-33) will take place Tuesday evening. The Cardinals took game on on Monday 4-3. All 4 of the Cardinals runs were scored in the 3rd inning off of Spencer Schwellenbach. The Braves got back into things in the 9th but fell short of their comeback bid. Zack Short struck out to Ryan Helsley, who picked up his 27th save of the season for the Cards. The Braves have won 8 of their last 11 games while the Cards have won 9 of their last 13. The Braves are trying valiantly to catch the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies but are having a hard time making up ground in a hurry. In this one, Reynaldo Lopez (5-2, 1.57) will make the start for the Braves. He has been untouchable in his last 2 starts. He has allowed just 9 hits and no runs over his last 11 innings of work. He will face the Cardinals's Kyle Gibson (5-2, 3.44) who is coming off a scoreless 7 innings of work against the Chicago Cubs back on June 14th.
