The Atlanta Braves (64-56 SU, 53-67 ATS) look to complete the sweep of the San Francisco Giants (61-62 SU, 57-65 ATS), who have slipped under .500 after three consecutive losses to Atlanta. The Braves have answered the bell when they most needed a big performance, coming up with strong pitching performances in all three games in the Bay Area.
Whether that continues depends on if Max Fried can get back to his usual form, because things have not been right with him ever since Independence Day. Fried had mostly been rolling along as usual, save for one encounter with Baltimore’s powerful offense. But he’s now given up 15 runs in his past four states, and taking two weeks off for a forearm issue did nothing to sort things out. If anything, things have actually gotten worse for Fried, as two of his starts came after the time on the injured list.

Logan Webb has also had his problems this summer, but he seems to have them sorted out now. He pitched a complete game shutout at the end of July against Oakland, and he’s given up just two earned runs in his past 21.2 innings for an ERA of 0.83.
Wednesday’s beatdown was a rare exception, as Atlanta has been playing some close games as of late. Four of the Braves’ past six games were decided by exactly one run, including the first two games in this series. The Giants just haven’t been able to get the hits when they’ve needed them in this series, and they’re at a point where they need them most. Getting back to .500 would keep San Francisco in the hunt, and Fried is really tough to trust right now. For that matter, so are the Giants.
