Whenever the Phillies and Braves meet, it promises to be an electrifying series, and their first meeting of 2026, this weekend at Citizens Bank Park, will be no exception. Venezuelan Martín Pérez will start for the visitors, while 33-year-old Taijuan Walker will take the mound for the Phillies.
The veteran Pérez reconnected with MLB by signing a MiLB contract, but at 35, he has been called up to the Braves to bolster Atlanta's pitching staff. On April 11, he comfortably pitched five innings in a game his team lost 0-6 against the Guardians. Despite the Phillies' collective batting average of .229, they must be cautious not to leave any home runs at home plate, as they have already hit 20.
But 20 home runs are still only 24, compared to the 24 the Braves have hit this season. Atlanta has had a tremendous first part of the season, a stark contrast to their 0-7 start in 2015. Now, with a 12-7 record, they lead a division that preseason odds favored the Mets or Phillies to win. The Braves are coming off two 2-1 series wins at Truist Park against the Guards and Marlins.
