The Atlanta Braves (54-46) begin a 4-game road series this evening with the New York Mets (53-48). Currently the Braves hold just a game and a half lead over these Mets for 2nd place in the NL East and the top spot in the wildcard. The Mets were able to make up some serious ground on the Braves recently due to the Braves dropping 4-straight while the Mets have won 4 of their last 5, including a 2-game sweep of the in-town rival Yankees. These divisional foes have not faced each other since early May when the Braves took the 1st two games of the three-game set. Tonight, they turn to their best arm in Chris Sale (13-3, 2.70) in hopes of snapping their losing streak. Sale is coming off 5-inning start against the Padres where he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while picking up his 13th win of the year. He will be opposed by the Mets’ Luis Severino (7-3. 3.58) who pitched a gem in his last start. His 6 innings of shutout pitching was good enough to earn him his 7th win of the season. He also fanned 7 Marlins in route to the victory. He did face Atlanta in their previous series and was a bit erratic, walking 3 batters over just 5 innings.
