The Minnesota Twins (62-65, 34-31 Home) will go for the series sweep of the Atlanta Braves (74-52, 32-29 Away) today at Target Field in Minneapolis, MN. Fans can follow the action on ESPN Unlimited when the game gets underway at 1:40 p.m. EST.
Minnesota came into the series fresh off getting swept by the Phillies at home over the weekend. After giving up seven, nine, and seven runs to Philadelphia, they’ve allowed the Braves to score just three. As for Atlanta, the Braves won the series finale vs. Arizona on Sunday but lost the previous two games.
The Twins are scheduled to give Taj Bradley the start. Bradley has gone 9-5 this season in 24 starts with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Teams have hit .226 against him. He has been solid at home this season, where he has gone 3-2 in 10 starts with a 3.65 ERA and a .212 OBA.
As for the Braves, Atlanta is expected to give young AJ Smith-Shawver his second start in the rotation. In his first (July 29) vs. the Mets, he went 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out four.

Atlanta is one of the best teams in baseball this season, so I understand why the public is backing them. However, they have not been playing like the better team right now. They may be able to limit the damage if they pull Smith-Shawver early and lean on their bullpen (3.50 ERA). But they may not get enough or any run support. The lineup has hit just .186 over the last week and scored just two runs in each of the last two games. Bradley can hold his own against that lineup. The Twins bullpen (4.69 ERA) is a concern, but the lineup should do enough damage against Smith-Shawver to get the win.
