The Miami Marlins (78-81, 45-33 Home) will close out their season series with the Atlanta Braves (93-66, 41-37 at Home) with a three-game series at home this weekend. Game 1 is scheduled for today at 7:10 p.m. EST at loan Depot Park in Miami, FL.
Miami comes into this series fresh off a loss in their last outing, 2-1 to the Cubs in Chicago. The Braves are also fresh off a loss, dropping their last game to the Cincinnati Reds yesterday, 7-6.
To help them get back on the right side of the scoreboard, the Marlins are sending Eury Perez to the mound to start the day. Perez is 7-11 in29 appearances (28 starts) this season with a 4.14 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and teams have hit .223 against him. As for the Braves, Atlanta appears to be going with a bullpen day. Reliever Ray Kerr is set to start the day on the mound for the Braves. Perez hasn't been a “shut-down” type of pitcher this season, but he has pitched well for the Marlins at home. Kerr does not have much big-league experience, but he has done a good job in the time he has had. The Braves bullpen in general has been solid this season. Because of the solid pitching matchup, I don’t see either team’s lineup going off at the plate today. No, it will be a relatively quiet game that either team has a solid shot at winning.
