The Marlins are scheduled to host the Atlanta Braves for a three-game series this week at loanDepot park in Miami, FL. Game One of the series will get underway today at 6:40 p.m. EST. Miami comes into the series with hopes of ending a rough homestand on a positive note with a few wins. They lost two of three vs. the Cardinals last week and two of three against the Blue Jays over the weekend. Atlanta is back on the road after a six-game homestand that saw them go 3-3.
Spencer Strider is set to start the day on the mound for the Braves. Strider is 5-11 in 17 starts with a 5.24 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and .267 OBA. He has had some trouble on the road, though, where he is 2-5 in eight starts with a 5.75 ERA and a .242 OBA. Edward Cabrera is scheduled to start for the Marlins. Cabrera has gone 6-7 in 22 starts with a 3.52 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and .236 OBA. In 12 starts at home, he has a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA and .229 OBA. He has done well against Atlanta, holding the Braves lineup to a .149 BA in 67 at-bats (ten hits, including two home runs).

Neither team has been especially strong at the plate over the last week; Atlanta has hit .244 to Miami’s .220. However, the Braves only scored two more runs than the Marlins in their last five games (25 to 23). But despite the lack of success at the plate for either team, both pitchers are unimpressive. Even if the Braves pull Strider early again, their bullpen has been nothing special this season (4.07 ERA). Cabrera has dominated the Braves once before; he can do it again, but don’t expect another shutout. Strider will get chased early, with the Marlins doing plenty of damage before he goes. I expect the Marlins to win this one, but I’d say the TOTAL is the best bet for this game.
