The Atlanta Braves (6-5) have lost 3 straight games, while their opponents, the Los Angeles Angels (6-5), have won 3 straight games. This will be game two of their three-game set. Game one was obviously taken by the Angels, who jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the 5th and coasted the rest of the game. Jose Soriano was magnificent for the Angels, striking out 10 and throwing 8 scoreless innings. Jo Adell went 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs to lead the Angels' offense.
Tonight, the Angels are not likely to have an easier time picking up a win. They will have Yusei Kikuchi on the mound, who is coming off a loss to the Cubs, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innings. He also walked 4 batters in the loss. If his control is not there once again, he and the Angels could be in for a long night.
Kikuchi will be opposed by the Braves' right-handed veteran, Reynaldo Lopez. He has had a strong start to the season, with 2 starts so far. He has allowed just 1 run in each of his outings and pitched a total of 11 innings. While he has not been overpowering, and striking out just 6 batters, he has only allowed 7 hits and kept the Braves in each game. Now, he gets to face an Angels lineup that is hitting just .202 on the season, bad enough for 26th in the league.
The Braves should have the advantage between the two pitchers. They just need to make the most of their opportunities when getting runners in scoring position.
