The Venezuelan bats, from both sides, Braves and Royals, deciphered the pitchers. Braves All-Star Maikel García delivered an RBI double, and then Salvador Pérez delivered a single that brought in García. But then came Braves star Acuña Jr., once again more than hot and inspired. After returning from injury, Acuña momentarily tied the game against the Royals with a 460-foot home run that brought in Olson. Then Ozuna came in and hit another two-run homer for the Braves. All of this is good news for the Braves, who, however, may find turning their season around and making the playoffs almost an impossible task.

Game 2 between the Braves and Royals will pit Fedde for the Braves, with a 5.22 ERA, against Lugo for the Royals, who have a 7-5 record.

Fedde was acquired by the Braves to somewhat address the gaps left by multiple injuries in the Braves' starting rotation. Fedde came from the Cardinals. A somewhat risky move by the Braves, who took Erick after the Cards assigned him. Fedde is preparing for his first appearance as a Brave after being hit with six ERs in Colorado in his last outing as a Cardinal.
