The Tigers (85-71) suddenly found themselves on the ropes. Detroit entered September with a sizable lead over Cleveland in the AL Central standings. However, Detroit has gone 5-11 in the final month of the regular season, opening the door for the Guardians (84-70) to narrow the gap to only one game.
