The Atlanta Braves (81-69 SU, 69-81 ATS) face the Cincinnati Reds (73-78 SU, 84-67 ATS) in the exact situation they didn't want to be in at this point. The Braves are now one game back of the Mets for the last playoff spot, and while Atlanta still has time to catch both the Mets and Arizona, this is the wrong opponent for that goal.
And that's because Cincinnati has proven to be a tough nut for Atlanta to crack. The Reds swept the Braves in Atlanta earlier this year, and Cincinnati has shown it can handle tough opponents at home. The Reds began September by going on a four-game win streak at home, beating the Brewers and the Astros in the process. Cincinnati isn't in the playoff race any longer, but the Reds' September call-ups have done a pretty good job of taking over. Since bringing up the younger players, the Reds are 9-5 overall.

Backing the bullpen has tended to work pretty well for Atlanta, as the Braves have the third-lowest bullpen ERA in the majors. Grant Holmes has pitched well when he's taken the ball, and it probably helps that he's used to being a starter before moving to the bullpen. If Atlanta needs him to go for longer than an inning or two, he has the stamina needed to do the job.
Brandon Williamson came up as a September call-up after the Reds thought highly enough of him last year to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. Williamson has mostly been kept to a low pitch count, as he hasn't pitched longer than the five innings he threw last time against St. Louis. If Williamson is allowed to throw, he has been pretty effective, allowing just one earned run in all three of his major league appearances.
