The Atlanta Braves are headed to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a three-game weekend series. Game One is scheduled to start at 9:40 p.m. EST tonight at Chase Field in Phoenix. Fans can follow the action on the MLB Network.
After a dreadfully slow start to the season, things are starting to pick up for the Braves. They are coming off a homestand where they won five of six, improving to 10-14 on the season. The Braves got a solid outing out of starting pitcher Bryce Elder (six innings, five hits, one earned run, three walks, two strikeouts) in their last game, a 4-1 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. Arizona would love to stop the bleeding with a win against the Braves at home. After beating the Rays 5-1 in Game One of a three-game series, they lost back-to-back games in extra innings (7-6 F/11 on Wednesday and 7-4 F/10 on Thursday).
Atlanta will hand the ball to Chris Sale to start the game. Sale has yet to last more than five innings, but the Braves have often managed to pull him before too much damage was done (three runs or less in three of five starts). Zac Gallen will start for the D-backs, and he has not played much better. He has gone 6+ innings in three of five starts but has a 1-3 record and a 5.60 ERA.
