Another of Wednesday's quarter-finals at the WTA event in Rome, otherwise known as the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, sees Aryna Sabalenka take on Qinwen Zheng, and not for the first time in 2025. The pair met as recently as March, when Sabalenka showed the Chinese competitor while she's ranked as the best player on the planet, winning in straight sets.
The world number one comes into this quarter-final in hot form having won her previous match in straight sets, while she recently won the Madrid Open, landing yet another title, beating the in-form Coco Gauff in the final. Such form bodes well for a player who is trying to go one step better at this tournament having lost in the final to Iga Swiatek last year. Qinwen Zheng, who is a top-10 player, has her work cut out here, despite being in good form. The world number eight has won each of her three matches in Rome in straight sets, but in terms of opponent quality, this is a big step up. Is it one that she's ready to take in her stride? For my money, probably not.
