Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will try to add another title to her collection on Saturday, as she takes on Coco Gauff of the United States in the women’s singles final of the 2025 Madrid Open.
Sabalenka booked her fourth straight final appearance on Thursday after outlasting the red-hot Elina Svitolina 6-3 7-5 in the semifinal. Svitolina entered the semifinal match on an 11-match win streak but the world’s No.1 proved too strong and too good for the Ukrainian. Sabalenka corralled 30 first-serve points and 4 breakpoint conversions.
In what was her best performance of the season, Gauff defied the odds as she dethroned reigning Madrid Open champion Iga Swiatek emphatically 6-1, 6-1. The American pulled off the stunning win by winning 90 percent of her first serves and breaking Swiatek’s serves five times in the match. Gauff also drilled in 7 aces as she pushed her winning streak against the pole to three matches.
