The Arizona State Sun Devils (13-16, 4-14) will take on their hated in-state rival, the No. 24 Arizona Wildcats (19-10, 13-5), tonight at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, AZ. Tipoff for this Big 12 rivalry game is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET with coverage via ESPN.
Arizona State got the year off to a promising start with a 9-2 record in non-conference play, with the two losses coming against top-ten teams. So, they entered conference play with promise and potential. But then reality set in as they went 1-5 in their first six Big 12 games. Since then, they’ve gone 3-11 with losses in eight of their last nine games. The most recent was a 99-73 beat down at the hands of the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City. The team’s leading scorer, BJ Freeman, was kicked off the team recently for ‘conduct detrimental to the team.’ So, an already shaky offense has gotten even shakier. A win over Arizona can help the team salvage an otherwise lackluster season.
It may not be too crazy to think it could happen. The Wildcats have lost four of their last six, including their last game, an 84-67 road loss to Iowa State. However, Arizona beat the Sun Devils on the road earlier in the season, 81-72.
