These Cardinals salvaged the final game of their series against the Royals in a high-scoring affair, winning 12-10 and avoiding a sweep while maintaining second place in the Central Division. The series continues as they face the Diamondbacks back at Busch Stadium.

It's been a welcome development for the Cardinals to acquire JJ Wetherholt as a reliable infielder. He not only contributes defensively, but, as demonstrated on Sunday, he's also one of the team's most productive hitters. He proved it in the last game, hitting two home runs in Kansas City and driving in three runs. He finished 3-for-5; his teammate Winn drove in four runs, Nootbar and Burleson also had RBI hits, and St. Louis recorded a season-high 16 hits.

Meanwhile, the D-backs lost their rubber matchup against the Twins, falling 4-2 on Sunday. The D-backs in that game managed six hits, all off the starter, but failed to get a hit against the next four relievers. Marte was the only one able to drive in runs, and he did so on Sunday with an extra-base hit to deep right-center field.
