San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction & Picks - MLB

San Diego (49-44) was off to a 3-1 start to the month of July including a win in their series opener against these Arizona Diamondbacks (44-45). However, on Saturday, they dropped game two in this Diamondbacks series. The game was tied 4-4 heading into the 9th before Arizona put up 3 runs on a 2-run single from Christian Walker and an RBI from Jake McCarthy. Donovan Solano doubled in Jake Cronenworth for the Padres in the bottom of the 9th but that was the only run they could muster and finished the game 7-4. Today, Padres will have Dylan Cease (7-7, 4.24) on the mound. Cease was pelted for 6 runs on 8 hits in his last start which came against the Rangers. He lasted only 3.2 innings and picked up his 7th loss of the season. For Arizona, Ryne Nelson (5-6, 5.42) will be charged with keeping this potent Padres lineup in check. He is coming off a nice start against the Dodgers where he gave up just 1 run on 6 hits in 5 innings of work. He did not factor into the decision and Arizona ultimately lost the game 6-5. In a game that features 2 starting pitchers with ERAs above the league average, it will be interesting to see which lineup puts up runs the quickest.
