The Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates continue their weekend series today, meeting for Game 2 at PNC Park. Both clubs are enduring tough seasons and sit near the bottom of their respective divisions, but each is hoping to build some momentum in the second half of the year. Arizona claimed the opener on Friday with a narrow 1-0 victory, backed by solid pitching and just enough offense to squeeze past the Pirates.

The Diamondbacks bring a 51-53 record into Saturday’s game, placing them fourth in the National League West. While still within shouting distance of a .500 record, the team has begun offloading some of its talent ahead of the trade deadline, a clear sign that management is pivoting toward the future.

Despite the overall struggles, Arizona did show some promise coming out of the All-Star break by sweeping the Cardinals at home. However, any momentum they built quickly evaporated after getting swept themselves by the Astros before heading to Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, holds a 42-62 mark, the worst in the NL Central. Their second half got off to a similarly rocky start as they were swept by the lowly Chicago White Sox. But the Pirates responded with a bit of resilience, bouncing back with a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers earlier this week. Still, inconsistency continues to plague this young team, and they’ll need a sharp performance today to even the series.
