Pittsburgh Pirates vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction & Picks - MLB

The Pittsburgh Pirates (55-53) play hosts to the Arizona Diamondbacks (58-51) for a 3-game series to begin their month of August. They defeated the Houston Astros in their final series of July 2-1 but missed their opportunity to sweep them as they fell 5-4 in the finale. Arizona, on the other hand, did complete the sweep of their final opponent in July, the Washington Nationals. They posted 31 runs in their 3 games against the Nats. Today, they will have Brandon Pfaadt (5-6, 3.92) on the mound to face the Pirates’ Luis Ortiz (5-2, 2.75). Pfaadt is coming off a rough start in his last outing. He went 6 innings but allowed 5 runs on 7 hits against these same Pirates. He miraculously picked up the win as the offense bailed him out by scoring 9 runs. Ortiz also had his last start against these familiar foes and allowed 3 runs in 5 innings while not factoring into the decision. The Pirates ultimately lost the game as they allowed 3 unanswered runs in the bottom of the 6th. This DBacks team is currently ranked 4th in baseball with a combined .258 batting average and 2nd overall in runs scored with 558 total.
