The Philadelphia Phillies (7-7, 4-4 Home) will try to move about .500 today when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks (8-7, 3-5 Away) this afternoon. Fans can follow the action at Citizens Bank Park once the game gets underway at 1:35 p.m. EST on MLB.TV.
Arizona won the first Friday night in a relatively tight game, 5-4. But the Phillies got payback yesterday with a 4-3 victory that included home runs by Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.
The Diamondbacks will ask Zac Gallen to start the day on the mound. Gallen is 1-1 in three starts with a 3.0 ERA and 1.33 WHIP this season. He got pulled after just four innings in his first start of the season against the Dodgers (five hits, four earned runs). But he has gone five and six in his last two starts, giving up nine hits total, and two earned runs.
As for the Phillies starter, Andrew Painter, he is off to a somewhat rocky start this season. His first was solid, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up four hits and a run. But in his second, he was pulled after four, giving up nine hits and four earned runs, hence a 4.82 ERA and 1.61 WHIP.

When the public is betting so heavily on one side, it can be hard to justify going against them. But not in this case. Zac Gallen is off to a solid start this year and has a solid history against the Phillies. Andrew Painter looked good in his first start, but not in his most recent. There is a good chance Gallen gets more support from his lineup (.249 over the last seven days) than Painter will from the Phillies (.191 over the last week). Since the Arizona moneyline has plus money odds, the value play here is one I can’t pass up.
