Philadelphia fans have already begun to get restless early in the season. The Phillies (6-6) have failed to score a run in their last 20 innings. After beginning the month with 3 straight wins, they have lost their last 2 games by a combined score of 11-0. They are now 26th in the league in total runs and batting just a combined .220, which is 23rd in the league. The one positive they have going for them tonight is that they will have Jesus Luzrardo on the mound. He is coming off a strong 11-strikeout game against the Rockies. He went 6.2 innings and allowed just 1 run on 5 hits while picking up his 1st win of the season.
Luzardo will be opposed by Michael Soroko of the Arizona Diamondbacks (7-6). Soroko has been magnificent in his 1st two starts of the season. He mowed down 10 against Detroit in his opener while holding the Tigers scoreless in his 5 innings of work. He followed that up with 5 more strong innings against the Braves, where he allowed a single run on just 4 hits. Soroko picked up a win in both outings and now faces a Phillies lineup that is desperate for some runs.
While the Phillies are finally home after a long west coast trip, there is no promise that they will figure out their batting woes in the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park.
