D-backs right-hander Brandon Pfaadt held off an inspired Red Sox offense very well in his last outing in the desert. Pfaadt dominated them for six innings in a quality outing, striking out seven, in a game Arizona won 5-1. Now, even though the D-backs won their last game against the Giants 5-3, they need Pfaadt to be at his best on Friday in the first game of the series against the Twins in Minneapolis.

Pfaadt has a 5.18 ERA, but has received good support from the D-backs' offense and has a solid 13-8 record.

For the Twins, Venezuelan Pablo López will pitch, whose season was cut short for three months by a shoulder injury. López is one of the valuable pieces the Twins didn't part with at the trade deadline. In his return from his lengthy injury, he came prepared to go deep, and he did, throwing 92 pitches in a quality performance against the Royals.

Despite a bad September, where they lost their first six games and haven't won a series, Minnesota is the -130 betting favorite.
