Arizona knows it has to play defense to win, and it has its best on the mound in Zac Gallen. Gallen has been more hittable on the road than at home, but Arizona has won his past two road starts. He also hasn’t given up more than three runs in eight of his past nine starts, and he dominated the Dodgers when he saw them last season.
Landon Knack has looked good since getting called up to Los Angeles, but he also hasn’t shown that he can beat a good lineup. He’s kept all six opponents he’s faced to two runs or less, but he also hasn’t gone past the fifth inning in any of his past four appearances. His low ERA might be a product of facing weaker lineups, as the Diamondbacks have been the best lineup he’s faced. That also happened when the Diamondbacks were in the midst of a stretch of seven losses in nine games and didn’t top four runs in any of those contests. Of course, the two games where they scored four both came against the Dodgers.
