The Houston Astros currently hold a 3-game lead in the AL West division over the Texas Rangers. The Arizona Diamondbacks currently hold the last wild card spot in the NL by just a half game over the San Diego Padres. This afternoon, the Astros and Diamondbacks will meet for the 3rd and final game of their series.
Pitching was the difference in game one of this series. Cristian Javier went 5 innings and held the Diamondbacks to just 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 8 to pick up his 2nd win of the season. The Astros scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning, and that was enough to pick up the 3-1 win.
In the 2nd game, these teams needed extra innings to decide the winner. The Astros jumped to an early 2-0 lead off an Isaac Parades 2-run RBI single in the 3rd. Fast forward to the 8th inning, and the Astros trailed 3-2 when Ketel Marte stepped to the plate. He launched a 400-foot homer and tied the game. No one was able to break the tie in the 9th, so they headed to extras, where Gabriel Moreno knocked in what would be the game-winning run. Brandyn Garcia closed things out for his 5th save of the season.
