The Arizona Diamondbacks (9-8) caught the Phillies at the right time for their 4-game series over the weekend. They took 3 of the 4, but were knocked back a bit last night in their 1st game in Baltimore. The Orioles (9-7) were powered by the combo of Pete Alonso and Jeremiah Jackson, who combined to go 5-7 with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs. Dean Kremer struck out 9 in his 5 innings of work, but did not factor into the decision of the 9-7 Orioles victory. The bullpen for the Diamondbacks left a lot to be desired. They combined to allow 7 earned runs over just 2.2 innings of work.
Merrill Kelly will get his 1st start of the season for Arizona here. He finished his 2025 campaign with a 9-6 record and a 3.22 ERA. He will be tested against this Baltimore lineup that is inside the top 10 of the league in both combined batting average and on-base percentage. Not only will the lineup be a tough task, but the opposing pitcher will also make things difficult for Kelly to get run support.
Trevor Rogers will be on the mound for the Orioles and will bring his 1.89 ERA with him. Rogers has been as steady as they come for the Orioles through his 1st three starts of the season. He held the Twins scoreless in his season debut and followed that up by allowing just 2 runs in his next two starts, each against the Rangers and White Sox.
If Rogers can give his team another quality start, the Orioles should be able to secure a series win over these Diamondbacks before the 3rd game.

We like the Orioles to continue their strong play on their home field in this matchup with the Diamondbacks. Trevor Rogers should be able to give them at least 5 innings of quality work, while the number of innings Kelly can go in his debut will remain to be seen. If he must come out early, the Diamondbacks will have to rely on their shaky bullpen against this tough Orioles lineup. Give us the Os to pick up yet another win here in game two of this series.
