The top team in the Pacific Division, the Anaheim Ducks (19-10-1) will take on one of the best teams in the Metropolitan Division on the road Thursday Night. The New York Islanders (17-11-3) will be Anaheim’s hosts and will look to win their 5th game in December.
The Islanders have kicked things off with a 4-1 record through the early portion of the month. That was much needed after they lost their final 3 games of November. Their latest win was a thriller against Vegas that went to shootouts. It was a gutty performance. After allowing a last-second goal to see the game get sent into overtime, they rallied and fought back against the momentum to grind out the win. Now they face an even tougher task in the talented Ducks coming to town.
Just like their opponents, the Ducks have also gone 4-1 to begin the month. That includes their current 3-game win streak that featured 15 goals scored and only 7 goals allowed. The more impressive part for the Ducks was the 7 they held opponents to. On the season, the defense has been their weak spot while the offense has continued to explode. They are now 2nd in the league and scoring, but climbing near the middle of the pack in goals allowed. If they can get the defense to start playing at a higher level, they will be extremely tough to defeat.
