For many WTA players, this week is all about the event in Jiujiang in China, but for others, it's all about the event in Hong Kong, known officially as the Hong Kong Open, a WTA 250 event, won last year by Diana Shnaider. Two up-and-comers, both of whom will be looking at a tournament of this nature as one that is winnable, will clash on Thursday. Alexandra Eala will be up against Victoria Mboko, both of whom has climbed the rankings in 2025 thanks to some impressive performances.
Eala, now ranked 51st, made is beyond a retiring Katie Boulter in the first round, playing some of the best hard-court tennis that she has for a while. She'll now be looking to kick on. However, getting the better of world number 21 Victoria Mboko will not be easy. The Canadian has won three of her last four and is clearly capable of doing damage. An interesting match awaits.

Let's be real, both players will likely fancy themselves to do well here. Mboko deserves to be a narrow favorite, but this won't be easy for the Canadian. Even when Eala has lost of late, she's battled super hard, typically forcing her opponents into a third set. Given how often we've seen this happen, odds of +160 look a little too lenient for my liking.
