Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan will attempt to carry his form into the final of the 2025 Halle Open as he faces Karen Khachanov of Russia in the semifinals on Saturday.
Bublik became the first man not named Carlos Alcaraz in almost a year to beat the world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner as the enigmatic Kazakh played the match of his career to defeat the three-time Grand Slam winner 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the second round. Bublik then delivered a fitting encore performance by sweeping Tomas Machac 7-6(2) 6-3 to reach the semifinal in Halle for the second time and first since winning the tournament in 2023.
Khachanov advanced to the semis with a 6-3 6-2 win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina. Khachanov, who had also taken out Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3 1-6 6-3 and Zizou Bergs 7-5 6-3 in the previous rounds, won 92 percent of his first serves and seized 3 breakpoint conversions to arrange his first ever duel with Bublik.
