Reilly Opelka of the United States braces up for a tough second-round battle with the world’s No.8 Alex De Minaur of Australia at the 2025 Cincinnati Open on Sunday.
Opelka will be trying to earn his first win over De Minaur after going 0-5 in their first five matchups. Opelka advanced to the second round in Cincy after grinding out a 7-5 7-6(3) victory over Hugo Dellien of Bolivia in the opening round. Opelka weaponized his massive serves to full extent, capturing 27 points off the first serves and 26 more on the second while firing 15 aces. He also broke a serve to secure a whisker of an edge against the feisty Bolivian.
De Minaur has achieved strong results in his last two tournaments, reaching the quarterfinal at the 2025 Canadian Open and capturing the Mubadala Citi Washington Open two weeks earlier. The Australian had strung up eight wins in a row before his winning run came to an end at the hands of eventual Canadian Open champion Ben Shelton in the last eight, 3-6, 4-6.
