Coming off his second semifinal appearance at an ATP 1000 event this year, Daniil Medvedev (-118) of Russia looks to build more steam as he battles fiery Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (+152) of Spain in the third round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters.

Medvedev advanced to the third round in Shanghai after he obliterated Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-1 in the opening match. The Russian proved too dominant against the Czech qualifier in many ways, holding all his serves by capturing 83 percent of his first serves and seizing five breakpoints. Medvedev has now won four of his last five matches after picking up three straight victories in Beijing before running out of gas against American teenager Learner Tien 7-5, 5-7, 0-4 in the semifinals of the 2025 China Open.

Davidovich Fokina demolished Italian Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-4 to earn his spot in the round of 32. The Spaniard also held all his serves and broke twice to get the edge over Arnaldi. With the victory, Davidovich Fokina arranged a seventh career showdown with Medvedev. Fokina is 1-5 against Medvedev in their head-to-head series, with his lone win over the Russian coming in last year’s Montreal Masters.
