2026 World Cup: SportyTrader's Crystal Ball

While you’ll find our experts’ insights in our daily detailed 2026 World Cup predictions, today we’re unveiling our tournament bracket, just a few days before the competition kicks off.
With a new format featuring 48 teams, the introduction of the Round of 16, and nearly 500 possible combinations for the knockout stage, the SportyTrader team faced a major challenge.
After simulating the scores of every match, using our algorithm and drawing on human intuition, the result of our work is here: our 2026 World Cup prediction bracket.
Among other things: a final victory for the French team, a strong showing by Portugal, and a perfect 3-for-3 for the host nations in qualifying for the Round of 16.
Do you agree with us? In any case, the editorial team’s verdict is in.
What factors were taken into account for our picks?
Our experts have analyzed and predicted every match in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Here are the main factors that were considered in developing our predictions:
- The coaches’ rosters
- The form of key players
- The “home-field advantage”
- Analysis of recent matches and friendlies
- Each team’s statistics
- Head-to-head history
- Performance in recent tournaments
While other factors were also taken into account, the main ones are listed above. Beyond the players selected and their form, which is obviously a key factor in making an accurate prediction, home-field advantage also helps explain the strong performances of the three host nations.
The most recent matches played by each nation, along with the accompanying stats, were obviously taken into account, as were head-to-head records and past performance in major tournaments.
One final point that should not be overlooked: the importance of the third match for the teams, which can change a lot if, for example, a team has already qualified after winning its first two matches.
Explanations of our tentative schedule
A new World Cup format also means a new format for the knockout stage. As we’ve already mentioned, we’re seeing the introduction of the Round of 16. It’s one more chance to be eliminated, but it’s also one more chance for smaller nations to experience an exceptional run.
The top two teams in each group qualify directly, while only the eight best third-place finishers advance to the Round of 16. The four worst third-place finishers and the last-place teams in each group are therefore eliminated and head home after just three matches.
Every goal conceded or scored, and every card received, will be decisive in reaching the Round of 16.
All of this further complicates the task facing our experts in drawing up the projected schedule, since every goal scored or conceded makes a difference in terms of qualifying or finishing among the top third-place teams.
Thus, based on our analysis and calculations, Paraguay, Sweden, Ecuador, Norway, Scotland, DR Congo, Austria, and Ghana should be among the lucky ones.
Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bosnia, and South Africa are therefore unlikely to reach the Round of 16 in our view, as are South Korea, Qatar, Haiti, Australia, Curaçao, Tunisia, New Zealand, Cape Verde, Iraq, Jordan, Uzbekistan, and Panama.
Will our experts be right? We’ll find out in a few days!
