Novak Djokovic of Serbia will play Yannick Hanfmann of Germany for a place in the round-of-16 of the 2025 Shanghai Masters.

Djokovic, a four-time Shanghai Masters champion, is the heavy favorite as expected, carrying a -900 value on the moneyline. But don’t quickly write off the +650 underdog Hanfmann, who has posted back-to-back wins over quality opponents in the previous round.

Djokovic defeated fellow former US Open champion Marin Cilic in straight sets but it was far from an easy match for the 24-time Grand Slam champion because Cilic really pushed him hard in this second-round clash. Djokovic captured 84 percent of his first serves, winning 43 points while adding 12 more behind the second ball to hammer out 7-6, 6-4 victory. Djokovic improved to 18-6 on the hard court and 32-10 overall in 2025.

Hanfmann reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters after hacking out three-set wins over Australian Open quarterfinalist Lorenzo Sonego 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 and two-time US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe 6-7, 6-2, 6-1. Hanfmann has won four matches in a row to reach this stage of the tournament after going through the qualifying phase to secure his spot on the main draw. The German is 12-8 on the hard court this year.
