On Monday, at the WTA event in Ningbo, China, also known as the Ningbo Open, there will be just one Chinese player in action. That player is Xiyu Wang, who is up against Diana Shnaider. Normally, Shnaider, as the much higher-ranked player, would be a massive favorite to get the better of a player ranked outside of the top 100, but the Russian has been badly out of form in recent weeks, so we probably shouldn't be surprised if the home-country player enjoys herself here, especially with the crowd behind her.
Xiyu Wang may be ranked outside of the top 100 currently, but she has beaten Monday's opponent, not once but twice before, winning nicely when the pair last met on Chinese shores. In other words, do not discount the player currently ranked 145th in the world.
