The No. 8 Michigan Spartans will try to move a step closer to their first regular season conference title since the 2019-20 season when they host the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers today. Tipoff for this Big Ten battle between ranked teams is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET with coverage via CBS.
Michigan State will take a four-game win streak into today’s game that includes three-in-a-row vs. ranked opponents (No. 13 Purdue, No. 12 Michigan, and No. 16 Maryland). They were down two to Maryland in their last game on Wednesday, 23-21 and nearly let a winnable game slip away late. A buzzer-beater by Tre Holloman from half court secured the win. As for Wisconsin, the Badgers are coming off an 88-62 win over Washington at home on Tuesday and have won six of their last seven. The one loss came last weekend at home, 77-73 OT.
However, the Spartans are a battle-tested squad, going 5-1 straight up and against the spread vs. ranked opponents this season. But the Badgers have only faced three ranked opponents and went 2-2 straight up and against the spread (Coaches Poll) . The wins were both against top ten teams, one came a couple of weeks ago vs. No. 7 Purdue and the other vs. No. 9 Arizona early in the season.

Wisconsin is the better offensive team of the two, but the Spartans have the better defense. However, neither is bad on the other end of the court. Wisconsin will try to pick up the pace and make the Spartans play faster than they want to. Michigan State will want to utilize their defense to slow the pace and grind out a win. The Spartans have been almost unbeatable at home, going 13-1 losing only to Indiana (Feb. 11). Wisconsin is 5-4 on the road this season with wins in their last three away games.
I think the game means more to the Spartans with a conference title in sight. That and playing in front of a home crowd will carry them to victory. However, I expect the game to be a close one with MSU pulling away in the final moments of the game.
