Finally, on Sunday, the Marlins ended their September-long winless streak, beating the Phillies 5-4 in the series finale. In that victory, reliever Ronny Hernández earned his seventh win of the year, and Lake Bachar had the opportunity to record the save, despite allowing two walks and one hit.
Otto López excelled; he was batted third by the Marlins manager for Sunday's game. López went 3-for-4, hit his 13th home run of the year, and drove in four of the Marlins' five runs.
Starting Monday, the Marlins face their final series of the season against the Nationals, a series comprised of games that have featured streaky winners: at Nationals Park earlier this month, the Nats swept the Mets in a three-game series, but before that, the Marlins had won five straight against the Mets since April 12.
The four-game series begins Monday, all at the same time. The first game will feature a pitching duel between Cade Cavalli for the Nats and Jason Junk, with a 6-2 record, for the Marlins.
