The Cincinnati Reds open a three-game weekend series with the Washington Nationals starting Friday at Great American Ball Park.
The Reds earned their first win in three games with an emphatic 9-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Cincinnati, second in the NL Central with 17-15 record, woke up from a two-game scoring slump as Joseph Trevino’s 3 RBIs spearheaded the Reds’ offensive onslaught. Cincinnati also got a steady outing from pitcher Andrew Abbott, who allowed three runs and four walks in 4.0 innings.
The Nationals ended the three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a 4-2 win, preventing a sweep at the hands of their division rivals. Holding a 5.17 ERA this season, Washington pitching corps led by starter Brad Lord collectively delivered a solid outing on the mound, hounding the Phillies to 2 and 9 hits. Luis Garcia had a hand in the two runs scored by the Nationals in the 6th inning, driving Keibert Ruiz home with a single and stealing home moments later.
