Phoenix Mercury (13-25) and Washington Mystics (23-15) will face off for the second time this week at PHX Arena. The Mystics claimed a playoff spot for the first time since 2023 after defeating Portland Fire 100-105 on the road on Sunday night. They followed this up with a commanding 84-94 win over Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night. However, the regular season is not yet over for the Mystics, who are still in contention to secure the No. 2 spot in the updated standings.
Phoenix Mercury, on the other hand, were officially eliminated from the WNBA playoff race after losing 89-99 to the Dream last Saturday. They haven’t played like a team that was in the WNBA finals just a year ago. But to be honest, losing Satou Sabally, Natasha Mack, and Sami Whitcomb was always going to be a difficult hurdle to overcome. Their focus now shifts towards finishing the season strongly to have something to build on during the offseason.
