The Chicago Blackhawks aim to stretch their longest winning streak of the season to five games on Friday against the Washington Capitals at the United Center.
After losing talisman Connor Bedard on Dec. 12, the Blackhawks had a horrible finish to last month, but they look like a new team in 2026. Jeff Blashill’s side has won all four outings in the new year, including a road game against the Capitals last weekend.
After losing eight of the last 10 games, Chicago visited Capital One Arena as a big underdog, but a gritty performance earned them two points. The team led twice before winning 3-2 in a shootout.
Following the shock loss to the Blackhawks last Saturday, the Capitals matched their season high with seven goals in a 7-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Yet, they had another disappointing outing on Thursday, losing 4-1 at home to the Dallas Stars. Head coach Spencer Carbery will be desperate to see the rollercoaster end soon.
Carbery did a great job with his team at the beginning of the campaign when Washington was among the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Following a tough four-week stretch, they are now just barely hanging on to a wild-card spot and need to find some rhythm before the Olympic break.
