On Friday night, hockey fans will be treated to a matchup of 2 division leaders. The Anaheim Ducks (16-10-1), who are at the top of the Pacific Division, will host the Washington Capitals (17-9-2), who currently lead the Metropolitan Division.
Washington is currently riding a 6-game win streak and is allowing just 1.5 goals per game during that stretch. They are fresh off a dominating win over San Jose on Wednesday, where they put up 7 goals and took a 7-1 victory. Both Alex Ovechkin and Ryan Leonard scored a pair of goals in the net while Charlie Lindgren allowed just 1 goal for the 3rd time this season. Now they head into Anaheim to finish their 4-game road trip.
Anaheim is coming off nearly the exact opposite game as their opponents. The Ducks were demolished by the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday, 7-0. Ville Husso was lifted after he allowed 4 goals on 21 shots, and Vyacheslav Buteyets did not fair much better and allowed 3 goals on just 13 shots. Husso is likely to start again here against the Capitals, but time will tell if he can bounce back from that dreaded last performance.
Anaheim has some room to wiggle, while the Capitals have Carolina hot on their trail in their division standings. Both teams hope to stay atop their divisions, and this matchup could send one teetering towards 2nd place.
