The Virginia Cavaliers (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) visit the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) in the ACC opener for both teams. Both had little trouble with FCS opposition in Week 1, as the Cavaliers handled Richmond by three touchdowns and the Demon Deacons beat North Carolina A&T by 32. Both still have something to prove, as neither ended last season very well. Over their past 10 games against FBS opponents, the teams are a combined 1-9, with the only win being Virginia’s home win over Duke.
Wake Forest’ offense was effective against A&T, as former Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier threw for three touchdowns. What has to worry the Cavaliers is the fact that Taylor Morin wasn’t one of the scorers despite six catches for 100 yards. Virginia’s secondary was just average last year, and if they get picked apart, it will be difficult for its offense to keep up.

Our Virginia Cavaliers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons Prediction
It’s safe to say that the Cavaliers didn’t miss playing Wake Forest, given that the Deacons have dominated this matchup. Virginia’s offense really has to prove it can get out of its own way, as the Cavaliers haven’t been able to count on points for a while.
However, Virginia’s defense made it a cover machine last season. The Cavaliers weren’t winning games, but they went 7-2 ATS over the final nine games, mostly because they were only favored twice (and lost one of those games). The spread is only a point, though, so that’s not the best place to find value. Instead, backing these teams to play good defense makes more sense. Virginia never moves the ball well on Wake, and the Cavaliers have improved quite a bit on defense under Tony Elliott. Our prediction for Virginia vs. Wake Forest is Under 56 Points.
