Viktoria Plzeň and Rangers FC are set to clash in Plzeň for the decisive second leg of their Champions League qualifying tie, with the Scottish side firmly in command. Rangers come into this match with a 3-0 aggregate lead after a dominant first-leg performance at Ibrox in Glasgow. In that first meeting last week, Rangers were firing on all cylinders and put three goals past Plzeň’s defense while keeping a clean sheet themselves.
It was a statement win for Rangers, who have been determined to return to the Champions League group stage after missing out last season. Now Rangers are on the cusp of advancing to the playoff round; even a draw or a one- or two-goal loss in Plzeň would suffice, though surely they’ll aim to finish the job with another positive result.
Viktoria Plzeň, a traditionally strong club from the Czech Republic, face a monumental challenge in front of their home fans. They earned this matchup by winning their second-round qualifier against Swiss side Servette Geneva, a tie which saw Plzeň show resilience and goal-scoring ability (including a high-scoring home leg).
However, against Rangers the Czech side found themselves outmatched, especially in Glasgow where they struggled to cope with Rangers’ speed on the wings. Domestically, Plzeň has been in decent form early in the Czech league season – they typically are near the top of the Czech First League – but the step up in competition to a club of Rangers’ caliber was evident in the first leg. Plzeň will hope that playing at Doosan Arena can ignite a better performance.

Our Viktoria Plzen vs Rangers Prediction
In the first leg, Rangers’ attacking players stole the show, and those same names will be pivotal in the second leg. Djeidi Gassama announced himself as a rising star with a fantastic performance in Glasgow. The 21-year-old French winger scored two of Rangers’ three goals, one in each half, and gave Plzeň’s defense nightmares with his pace and direct dribbling.
For Viktoria Plzeň, the comeback quest will hinge on their attacking leaders finding form. The standout name is Matěj Vydra, the team’s captain and most renowned player. Vydra is a seasoned forward who has played in the English Premier League and has a lot of international experience with the Czech national team. In the first leg, he was fairly well-contained, though he did have one goal-bound shot brilliantly blocked by Rangers’ defense in the first half.
From Plzeň’s perspective, the message will be to win the second leg itself, even if overturning 0-3 is unlikely – they’ll aim to at least grab a win on the night to reward their fans. For Rangers, it’s about professionalism and seeing out the aggregate advantage. The Scottish side’s superior quality was evident and unless complacency creeps in, they should be able to manage this match as well. Plzeň may raise their game and could nick a goal, but Rangers have the tools to respond in kind. In all, Rangers’ pace up front and solid organization make them clear favorites to advance comfortably. Our prediction for Viktoria Plzeň vs. Rangers: Rangers to win.
